Acquire More 2027 Picks: Dynasty Moves That Win Titles
The 2027 class looks strong on paper. Active dynasty managers will reap the rewards.
Last week, Kevin offered a look into the 2026 class and how now is the perfect time to move off those picks to win now. He explored the notion that picks don’t win titles, and he’s absolutely correct. However, two team states offer the ability to capitalize on managers who aren’t looking ahead: oversaturated contenders with expendable assets, and aging contenders who wish to get younger. With Kevin’s article in mind, the 2027 class is the target for these two types of contenders. Rebuilders can also attack the 2027 class, but I won’t try to sell you on a three-year rebuild. Our goal is to help you win championships, not sit in rebuild territory for years.
Flip Your 2026 Picks: Dynasty Moves That Win Titles
One of the core principles I preach in dynasty is staying “draft active.” That means stockpiling picks, playing the board, and always having the ammo to move around during rookie drafts. It’s a long-game approach that keeps you flexible and opportunistic year-round. But here’s the thing draft capital doesn’t score points, and sometimes the best move is pulling the trigger
Our work here shows that the 2027 class is as strong as any in recent years. Depending on Arch Manning and LaNorris Sellers’ statuses following the 2025 college football season, the class could be stocked with immediate top-12 assets. Our combined devy/dynasty rankings currently have Manning and DJ Lagway (QB - Florida) inside the top-20, two wideouts inside the top-20 (with one inside the top-10), and three more wideouts in WR3 territory. Multiple 2027-eligible quarterbacks currently sit inside or just outside the top-36, and the running back class will become clearer as the 2025 season kicks off. If you haven’t joined us on Patreon and consumed these rankings, you may not realize how rare it is for players two years out to rank this highly. We tend to remain conservative on the devy side, as devy is more volatile than NFL assets. That many assets sitting in those ranges is unheard of, and I’d venture to say the 2027 class, on paper, is the best class I’ve seen since I started playing dynasty.
In this article, I’ll break down what different tiers of 2027 picks are worth right now, from early to late 1sts and even 2nds, and how you can go from pretender to long-term contender.
Section 1: Early 2027 Picks (1.01–1.04)
Current Value:
2027 early first-round picks are arguably worth more than 2026, though the market’s failure to catch up will give you a discount. Kevin introduced the stockpiling pick strategy to leverage your assets and win now, but you’ll be hard-pressed to get a 2027 first away from me in the next two years, especially if it’s projected inside the top four. With the 2025 class behind us, this is the real cream of the crop. Before I get into some expendable veterans, I want to reiterate that winning is the priority. I’m not blowing up a legitimate title contender to get 2027 picks. However, I’m comfortable sending depth pieces to acquire more 2027 lottery tickets.
Veterans to Send:
QB: Dak Prescott, Michael Penix Jr.
RB: Joe Mixon, Alvin Kamara, Derrick Henry
WR: Jordan Addison, Jayden Reed, Tyreek Hill
TE: Zach Ertz, David Njoku
Strategy Tip:
While there’s a ton of name value here that dynasty managers will covet, too many factors push this group of players into volatility. Prescott is an aging asset who hasn’t been an elite asset for years. Kevin suggested flipping a 2026 pick for him, and with George Pickens’ arrival in Dallas, that could be lucrative for a chunk of the season. Flipping him again for a 2027 early-1st may be more lucrative, though. Penix struggled in his first few games as a rookie, and we rank him below Manning and Lagway in our combined rankings. The trio of running backs can certainly help a contending team in 2025, but two of them are pushing 30, with one approaching 32. If your team has other starting options, moving off veteran running backs to constantly retool is a viable strategy. Neither of those tight ends offers the elite upside that an early 2027 pick will, and the wideouts each have their share of issues. Many of these players should be no more than depth on a true contender, creating the ability to move for 2027 picks.
