Rounds 1–5 Takeaways: Freshmen Flash, Veterans Fade, and Sneaky Value Emerges

The early rounds of this mock were loaded with upside, but they also highlighted one of the biggest challenges in Campus 2 Canton formats: over-drafting unproven freshmen quarterbacks. While names like Bryce Underwood, Keelon Russell, and Deuce Knight carry sky-high ceilings, it's tough to justify multiple first-round picks on quarterbacks who haven’t played a college snap yet. When you’re building a C2C roster, balancing upside with early production is key—and this draft tilted hard toward projection over proven talent.

In contrast, savvy drafters who leaned into veteran signal-callers like Garrett Nussmeier (1.12) and Drew Allar (2.07) found better immediate value without sacrificing long-term potential. Two of my favorite value picks from this group were Demond Williams Jr. (Washington) and Avery Johnson (Kansas State). Williams, taken in Round 4, is a likely multi-year starter with dual-threat ability in a QB-friendly system. Johnson, drafted at the 5/6 turn, brings elite rushing upside and flashed enough in limited 2024 action to suggest a breakout could be coming.

Outside the quarterback position, a few names jumped out for where they were taken. Bryson Washington (RB, Baylor) in Round 5 is an absolute steal. He’s under the radar right now, but his blend of burst, receiving ability, and open-field vision makes him a sleeper to rocket up devy boards in the 2026 class.

Another name gaining momentum is Lotzeir Brooks (WR, Alabama). Taken in the middle of Round 5, he’s starting to separate himself from the crowded freshman receiver pack. With early spring buzz and a clear path to snaps, Brooks is one of the biggest risers in recent mocks.
