This week, we turn the focus to a player who made a statement in Week 1 and put himself firmly on the radar.

Jonah Coleman, the 5’9”, 220-pound senior running back for Washington, wasted no time making his presence felt in the season opener. Fresh off a 1,000-yard campaign in 2024, Coleman entered 2025 on the Doak Walker Award watch list and delivered exactly the type of performance that validates the hype. Against Colorado State, he racked up 177 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, while also adding a 22-yard reception and a 26-yard kickoff return.

From the very first drive, Coleman’s versatility stood out. On a gutsy fourth-and-1 call, he slipped out of the backfield and hauled in a perfectly placed ball from quarterback Demond Williams Jr. to keep the chains moving, one of 10 first downs he personally accounted for on the night. Seven of his first nine carries went for double-digit yardage, with many of those coming on key third downs as Washington’s offense leaned on him to put the game away.

For his efforts, Coleman was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, his first conference weekly honor. Head coach Jedd Fisch called it “his best night running the football” in their four years together, praising not just his production but his consistency, toughness, and leadership. Simply put, Coleman looked like the steady heartbeat of the Huskies’ offense and a player capable of keeping them in the Big Ten title mix.
