Devy Deep Dive - Player of the Week
Kevin dives deep into Florida State WR Duce Robinson.
The college football season is officially underway, and Week 2 wasted no time giving us big performances that will shape the devy landscape. Each week in Devy Deep Dive – Player of the Week, I’ll spotlight one standout whose play deserves extra attention and break down what it means for their devy value, draft stock, and long-term outlook. This week, we turn the focus to a player who made a statement in Week 2 and put himself firmly on the radar.
Player Introduction & Context
Week 2 delivered plenty of fireworks, but few performances were louder than what we saw in Tallahassee. Florida State rolled East Texas A&M 77–3, and while the blowout was expected, the way Duce Robinson announced himself was not. The USC transfer turned a lopsided matchup into his personal highlight reel, reminding everyone why he was one of the most coveted recruits in the 2023 class.
Robinson, a 6’6” transfer from USC, stole the show in the Seminoles’ second game of the season. In just one half of football, he hauled in 5 catches for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a spectacular deep-ball grab where he created late separation, elevated over the defender, and pulled down a highlight-reel score. It was the type of play that instantly lit up social media and put the rest of the country on notice.
This breakout didn’t come out of nowhere. Robinson was a five-star prospect out of Pinnacle (AZ) and the No. 1 ranked tight end in the 2023 recruiting cycle, but USC used him primarily at receiver. Across two seasons with the Trojans, he totaled 39 receptions for 747 yards and 7 touchdowns, flashing his upside while averaging over 17 yards per catch last season. His transfer to Florida State came with plenty of buzz, and all offseason reports pointed to him being the No. 1 target in this offense.
Through two games, Robinson is proving those reports correct. He’s already up to 7 catches for 191 yards and two scores, quickly becoming the big-play threat the Seminoles needed. With his size-speed combination and ability to line up across multiple receiver spots, Robinson has the traits to create mismatches anywhere on the field. If he continues on this trajectory, he could develop into a Drake London-type prospect and give the 2026 WR class another marquee name.
