Who is Donovan Edwards?
Edwards was a four-star in the composites and attended West Bloomfield High in Michigan. Edwards was a dual sport athlete and a multi-year varsity guard on the basketball team. As a Sophomore, Edwards ran the ball 161 times for 1,239 yards with 16 touchdowns and added 33 receptions for 419 yards and five touchdowns. As a Senior, Edwards would be named Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and finished with 1,502 rushing yards with 30 touchdowns. Edwards was a highly coveted recruit and the second-ranked running back in the 2021 class and would be the prized recruit for the Michigan Wolverines. Edwards was brought along slowly as a freshman but still saw 133 snaps and flashed his potential from day one.
Edwards has been the Robin to Blake Corum’s Batman role thus far in his career, but the two fed off each other, allowing Edwards to continue and develop his game. The two would help the Wolverines win a National Championship and cap off a dream season for the Wolverines. Corum is now in the NFL, and for Edwards' senior season, he finally gets the spotlight to be the lead back for a revamped Wolverines offense. Edwards ended the Championship season at 200lbs. By the end of spring, Edwards has put on 14lbs without compromising his speed and agility. Edwards has also taken on a leadership role. With JJ McCarthy and Corum gone, Edwards isn’t in the shadows. He is more comfortable in his skin and a more vocal leader, which cumulated in the Spring Game, where he got the superstar treatment of playing just one series. In that series, Edwards looked more physical, showed better vision, and had the agility and elusiveness that has been his trademark since High School.
