Devy Digest: Freshman Spotlight - WR Dillon Alfred
Welcome to Freshman Friday, where Andy Pham highlights upcoming freshmen who could make waves in the upcoming season.
Ole Miss Rebels
Position: Wide Receiver
Name: Dillon Alfred
Height/Weight: 6’0”, 180 lbs
Draft Eligible: 2028
Who is Dillon Alfred?
Alfred was a three-star recruit in the composite rankings and attended Saraland High School in Gautier, Mississippi. He was a dual-sport athlete who also competed in track and field. A four-year varsity player, Alfred contributed as a freshman with three receptions for two touchdowns. He broke out as a sophomore with 57 receptions for 1,196 yards and 15 touchdowns. The following year, he had 35 receptions and six touchdowns, and although his senior season was cut short to just five games, he still managed 31 receptions for 456 yards and eight touchdowns.
Alfred held 22 offers, including ones from Auburn, Clemson, Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M, LSU, and Ole Miss. He chose to stay close to home and committed to Ole Miss.
Alfred is an exciting prospect who showcases good footwork and a diverse route tree. He can line up in the slot or on the boundary and displays strong lateral movement and hip fluidity. He excels on in- and out-breaking routes and is a slippery route runner who finds ways to get open. He works the middle of the field and gains tough yards to move the chains, while also showing the ability to win deep with strong ball-tracking skills. Alfred is a well-rounded receiver who is dangerous with the ball in his hands and can create after the catch. He enrolled early and is already on campus, giving him ample time to earn the trust of the coaching staff.
Pathway to Success:
Ole Miss loses a lot of returning production, and there are ample vacated targets available. The best returning receiver is Cayden Lee, who primarily operates out of the slot. Ole Miss brought in several portal transfers, including De’Zhaun Stribling (Oklahoma State), Harrison Wallace (Penn State), Traylon Ray (West Virginia), and highly touted 2024 recruit Caleb Odom—a converted tight end from Alabama.
I expect Alfred to be in the two-deep rotation early in fall camp and to find playing time during blowouts. What sets Alfred apart from the rest of the room is his route-running ability—he gets open without needing to be schemed open. He also has the speed to win deep and creates space for the offense in key moments.
Ole Miss faces Georgia State, Kentucky, Auburn, Tulane, Washington State, and The Citadel. Alfred should see playing time in those games, giving him an opportunity to showcase his skillset and solidify his role heading into 2026.
Ole Miss hasn’t done a great job recruiting the wide receiver position recently, but Alfred isn’t as raw or unrefined as some of their past recruits. In recent seasons, the program has been in a "playoff or bust" mindset. With Jaxson Dart gone and no elite quarterback on the roster, it's conceivable that Ole Miss could have a down year, finishing with seven or eight wins. If that happens, the staff may turn to younger players to prepare for 2026—and that’s where Alfred could shine.
