Who is Cortez Mills?
Cortez Mills was a four-star recruit in the composite rankings and attended Homestead High in Homestead, Florida. He was a four-year varsity player and made an impact as a freshman. As a sophomore, he recorded 10 touchdowns, and in his junior year, he exploded with 79 receptions for 1,640 yards and 18 touchdowns. Unfortunately, his senior season was cut short due to injury, but he remained a dynamic presence on the field.
Mills held 32 offers from top programs, including Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, and Texas A&M. He initially committed to Oklahoma but decommitted following coaching changes, ultimately choosing Nebraska.
Mills is an exciting prospect and an exceptional athlete. He possesses good speed, an explosive first step, and the ability to gain leverage quickly over defenders. He already understands how to stack defenders at a young age and should refine his tempo with coaching. Mills is a sudden mover with excellent lateral agility and hip sink. He’s also a strong route runner with top-tier body control, tracking ability, and deep-route prowess. One of his standout traits is his understanding of zone coverages—he knows how to find open space and present himself as a target for his quarterback.
As an early enrollee, Mills will participate in spring camp, giving him an opportunity to earn the coaching staff’s trust.
