Who is Jaydon Blue?
Blue was a four-star in the composites, ranked in the top 200 overall in the composite, and a consensus top-20 Running Back in the 2022 class. Blue attended Klein Cain High in Tyler, Texas. Blue was a two-year starter and played a large role. During his Sophomore year, he rushed for 1,612 on 205 carries with 16 touchdowns. Blue added 15 receptions to round out his profile. He topped that the next season with 2,155 yards on 227 carries with 30 touchdowns and an additional 14 receptions. Blue also competed in track and field with a personal best of 10.70 seconds in the 100-meter. Blue decided to sit out during his senior season, and it has been reported that he wanted lingering injuries resolved before enrolling on campus. The recruiting process for Blue was heated, and he had 35 offers. His choices were narrowed down to Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU and Texas. Blue decided to stay in the state and enroll in Austin.
Blue’s freshman season was a mixed bag. He came in physically in shape but was not in football shape and ended up in the doghouse early on. Blue was a depth piece behind Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, Keilan Johnson, and Jonathon Brooks. Blue was primarily used as a Special team performer. The very next season, Texas brought in highly coveted CJ Baxter, and there were concerns that he would be buried on the depth chart. With a year under his belt, Blue came into 2023 in much better shape and was third on the depth chart, with an injury to Brooks, Blue was vaulted into the 1B role to end the season. This summer, Baxter was injured and has been ruled out for the season, which has paved the way for Blue to be the lead back for the Longhorns and is next in line to be an NFL-drafted running back in the program with a productive season.
