Arizona Cardinals
QB: Kyler Murray has looked sharp early in camp, showing improved arm strength, quick decision-making, and a noticeable command of the offense. He’s delivered several impressive deep throws, a welcomed change after last year’s lack of downfield success. The coaching staff has praised his leadership and focus, and there's a growing belief this could be a bounce-back year for the franchise QB. Murray looks more in rhythm and appears to have taken a step forward in terms of maturity and consistency.
RB: DeeJay Dallas has stood out in drills with his burst and special teams value, giving him an edge for a roster spot. However, the spotlight remains on second year RB Trey Benson, who has all the tools to make an impact but hasn’t separated himself yet. One area that needs improvement is his pass-catching ability—if he can’t contribute on third downs, Emari Demercado may continue to handle those duties. The battle for RB2 is far from settled, and Benson’s development as a dual-threat back will determine his 2025 outlook.
WR: The chemistry between Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. is starting to click, with the second year WR looking much more comfortable in his routes and timing. Harrison should dominate targets, but the bigger question is: who will emerge as WR2? Michael Wilson is getting looks at punt returner, which shows the team’s desire to find creative ways to utilize him, and Greg Dortch continues to be reliable underneath. This competition will play out over camp and could be a key piece to unlocking the full potential of the passing game.
TE: Trey McBride has picked up right where he left off last season, showcasing strong hands, crisp routes, and vocal leadership on the field. He’s clearly the heartbeat of this offense, both in production and presence. His role appears cemented, and the Cardinals will continue to lean on him as a chain-mover and red zone option. McBride looks ready to push for a top-5 finish at the position in 2025.
Should Be On Your Radar: Trey Benson’s development is crucial. If he can prove reliable as a pass-catcher and sharpen his pass protection, he could push for a true RB2 role or even carve out third-down work. If not, he risks falling behind in a crowded room despite his upside.
The Pulse: Practices kicked off on Wednesday, July 23rd, so we’ll report back next week with a larger sample size.
