Week 0 gave us a small sample, and we finished 3-4 across game picks and player props. Not the start we wanted, but early-season betting is always volatile when we’re working with limited information and projecting teams we haven’t fully seen yet.
Now we get to Week 1.
The board is much bigger, we have more matchups to attack, and I’m willing to spray it around a little more this week. We learned a few things in Week 0, and now it’s time to use that information, trust the numbers, and get back on track.

Alabama -25.5 Over ECU
This is a massive number, but I’m still willing to lay it with Alabama. East Carolina is basically starting over. The Pirates are coming off a 9-4 season, but they lost 24 players to the transfer portal, including starting quarterback Katin Houser, running back London Montgomery and multiple defensive starters. They also lost both coordinators, so this is not just a roster rebuild. It is a complete schematic reset as well. Mitch Griffis is expected to start at quarterback, and while he brings experience, he struggled to consistently move the offense during his time at Wake Forest. ECU may also work Emory Williams into the rotation, but neither option inspires much confidence against a veteran Alabama defense.
That is really the biggest reason I like this side. I can see ECU’s defense giving Alabama a few issues early. Blake Harrell is a good defensive coach, and preparing for a completely rebuilt unit without much film is never easy. But over four quarters, the talent gap should eventually become overwhelming. And I think Keelon Russell has a big game. This is the kind of matchup where Alabama should be able to let Russell settle in, build confidence and attack a defense that simply does not have the same personnel it had a year ago. Once the Tide find their rhythm, I expect them to create separation quickly. The bigger question is whether ECU can score enough to stay inside the number. I’m not convinced they can. Alabama doesn’t need to score 50 for this to cash. Something in the 38-3 or 42-10 range gets us there, and that feels very realistic.
