The Dynasty Investor: Technical Analysis – Tight End Chartbook
Jay Stein applies investment and valuation concepts to Fantasy Football.
Tight ends have always been one of the trickiest positions to value in dynasty. They develop slowly, produce inconsistently, and outside of a few elites, rarely separate themselves from the pack. But the charts tell us a story worth listening to. By studying price trends, reversals, and long-term baselines, we can cut through the noise and better understand how the market really views these players. The goal here, as always, isn’t to predict the future—it’s to react more rationally to the patterns already unfolding.
Key concepts like mean reversion and moving averages are particularly valuable. For example, when a tight end’s price has strayed far above its long-term trend, odds are good a correction is coming. Conversely, when a player’s market dips well below his historical baseline, that could represent an undervalued buying window. Watching for bullish and bearish reversals also helps us anticipate when the market is shifting—from fading a veteran too early to finally recognizing the breakout of a young star.
Let's dive in.
