Week 5 is here, and now we have enough data to start taking some of these trends more seriously. Three weeks still is not a huge sample, but injuries, usage, depth-chart movement, weather, and changing roles are giving us a much clearer picture of which dynasty storylines actually matter.
The goal of The Sunday Fantasy Brief stays the same: get you caught up quickly on what matters most before kickoff. No overreaction, no chasing one-week box scores, just the key news, dynasty implications, and situations I’ll be watching throughout the day.
The Lead Story
Can Brock Purdy keep this top-three fantasy season going? Through four weeks, Purdy has been playing as well as any quarterback in football. He is tied for the league lead with 11 touchdown passes, has gone three straight games without an interception, and somehow has not been sacked once all season.
That last part matters more than it sounds. Purdy has always been at his best when he is playing on time, getting the ball out quickly, and avoiding the negative plays that can kill drives. Right now, he is doing all of that at an elite level. His accuracy has been outstanding, his pocket movement has been clean, and he continues to make throws every week that remind you how comfortable he is in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
The numbers back it up too. Purdy currently leads the league in passer rating, QBR, net yards per attempt, EPA per dropback, and success rate among qualified quarterbacks. And he is doing it while San Francisco continues to deal with injuries around him.
That is what makes this start so impressive. The receiver room has been banged up, Mike Evans has been playing through a rib issue, and Purdy has still kept the offense moving at a high level. Now comes another real test. Seattle is not the type of defense you want to see when you are trying to keep a hot streak going, but Purdy has already shown he can survive difficult matchups. He just handled Denver without taking a sack and still finished with two touchdowns and no turnovers.
What I’m watching: Can Purdy continue avoiding sacks and turnovers while maintaining this touchdown pace against Seattle? At some point, the efficiency probably comes back to earth a little. But right now, Purdy is not just riding a hot streak. He looks completely in command of this offense.
🚑 Injury Watch
Week 5 has several major situations that could completely change workloads and target shares, so this is one of the more important injury slates we have had so far.
Sunday Morning
Saquon Barkley, RB, Eagles
Barkley has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Tank Bigsby has landed on IR. That leaves Will Shipley as Philadelphia’s lead back in London. The matchup against Jacksonville is brutal, but the volume should be there.
Dallas Goedert/DeVonta Smith, Eagles
Goedert will return after practicing on a limited basis and could immediately become one of Jalen Hurts’ most trusted targets. Smith is out with a hamstring injury, opening additional opportunities for Goedert, Dontayvion Wicks, and Makai Lemon.
