The Devy window never closes; it just shifts.

And if you’re serious about building a long-term edge, you don’t wait for recruiting rankings to stabilize. You don’t wait for freshman breakouts. You don’t wait for draft buzz. You draft ahead of it. In our latest episode of The Devy Royale Podcast, we ran a full 5-round Devy mock draft spanning four classes: 2026, 2027, 2028… and yes, the 2029 class. This wasn’t just a mock. It was a portfolio exercise.

Why We Included the 2029 Class

Most managers won’t touch 2029 players yet.

That’s exactly why we did.

In Devy, value isn’t created when a player becomes obvious. It’s created when uncertainty still exists. The earlier you enter the market, the cheaper the access point.

We wanted to explore:

  • When does it make sense to take a freshman?

  • How much insulation matters versus ceiling?

  • Where positional liquidity shifts across classes?

  • What a true long-term Devy portfolio looks like?

This mock forces those questions.

Round-by-Round Strategy Themes

Instead of just listing picks, here’s what stood out strategically:

Round 1: Insulated Assets > Hype

Early picks were about projection confidence and NFL draft capital probability. In Superflex formats especially, insulation matters. High-floor quarterbacks and alpha profiles dominated early capital.

Round 2–3: Ceiling Windows

This is where the board starts to open up. Managers had to decide:

  • Do I chase 2029 upside?

  • Do I take a safer 2026 producer?

  • Or do I lean into archetypes that historically rise in value?

This is the liquidity pocket of Devy drafts.

Round 4–5: Leverage & Long Shots

These rounds separate sharp managers from hopeful ones.
Instead of drafting names, we drafted profiles:

  • Explosive traits

  • Situational leverage

  • Incoming depth chart cracks

  • Archetypes that spike after one breakout game

The key isn’t being right immediately. It’s owning the right types of bets.

Player Spotlights From the Mock

Throughout the episode, we broke down several key selections including:

  • Early 2029 freshman targets with real NFL upside

  • Sophomores poised for breakout windows

  • Quarterbacks whose draft capital projection is rising

  • Running backs in potential opportunity flips

We didn’t just give takes, we explained why certain profiles matter in Devy portfolio construction.

Devy Isn’t About Takes — It’s About Timing

This mock wasn’t about hot takes.

It was about understanding:

  • Market timing

  • Value insulation

  • Class strength differences

  • Risk distribution across roster spots
